About Us

Canchones has been dedicated to the improvement of black huacaya since the establishment of the stud in 1998.

Over the ensuing years, the Canchones brand has become synonymous with quality of frame and fleece and is recognised around the world for the quality of it’s stock. The influence of Peruvian genetics imported by Canchones made substantial improvements in the quality of available black huacayas. This improvement has been continued through dedicated breeding practices and the addition of select Australian genetics over the ensuing years.

Canchones is continually reinvesting in leading genetics. The use of Embryo Transfer has had a significant benefit to the availability of excellent genetics. Working with Dr Jane Vaughan for more than 10 years has enabled Canchones to release some of their best genetics to clients around the world. Our passion and enthusiasm for the alpaca industry is as great now as when we started. We have been involved in the alpaca industry in Australia through various roles and continue to strive to improve the industry in any way possible.

Canchones farm is located at Taggerty in North East Victoria. It is approximately an hour and a half from Melbourne via either the Maroondah Hwy through Healesville or the Western Ring Road and Hume Highway via Tallarook and Yea. Accommodation is available on farm by prior arrangement. With over 300 huacaya on farm, we have something to satisfy anyones budget.

We work closely with our clients to ensure that they also develop a sustainable business as through their ongoing success we know that ours can be guaranteed. The ongoing after sales support and advice offered by Canchones has enabled us to develop long term relationships with our clients. It is with pride that we still count our first clients as friends and business partners.

All alpacas sold by Canchones are owned and warranted by Canchones.
